The Forest is a horror video game with a heavy emphasis on mechanics and tropes from the survival game genre. Endnight Games developed this using the Unity engine.
The biggest selling point of this game is its massive open world, where players have the choice and freedom to do virtually anything. The environment's design makes it hard not to be immersed since you can chop down every plant and tree you see. There is even an underground network of caves and lakes that can be explored, nearly doubling the already large play area.
You can build small shelters in the jungle or commit to constructing a fortress near the shore of the ocean. There’s loot and materials to farm and discover along your journey, and you have the choice to either fight enemies head-on with pure brute strength and weaponry or stealthily hunt them from the shadows.
The Forest has a Metascore of 83 with a user score of 7.4. One user gave it a 10, saying at first, they “didn’t find the game attractive. But [they] were mistaken. You stay several hours even after the game is over. I recommend it to anyone.” Another user gave it a 10, saying they “didn’t expect this game to be that good. [The] animations, sounds, graphics, AI, effects, and 3D models, etc.”
GamesRadar notes Conan Exiles, The Long Dark, and ARK: Survival Evolved all share similar gameplay elements with The Forest.
The Forest was released on May 30, 2014, and you can play it on PlayStation 4, Android, and Microsoft Windows. 5GB of storage is needed to download this game.
