Story, Setting, and Characters

You take control of a character who has witnessed the murder of their Sifu. Throughout the game, you fight and wriggle your way to the leader of the newest gang in the land to find and avenge your Sifu.

Sifu is unique in the indie game sector, as it features hefty technologies that allow the game to flow as it does. Kung Fu master Benjamin Colussi collaborated with the developers’ motion capture team to gather smooth movements that resemble realistic actions in the ancient art of Kung Fu.

Aside from the challenging mob fights and seemingly unbeatable bosses, Sifu features sleek graphics and animations that immerse players in a contemporary Chinese land. A mechanic unique to roguelites sees the main character age every time they die in combat.

Reviews and General Information

Sifu has a Metascore of 80 with a user score of 8.1. One user gave it a 10, saying that it’s “one of the most challenging games I have ever played in my life.” Another user gave it a 0, warning players that the “graphics are terrible, [and the] gameplay is intentionally very hard because otherwise the game can be finished in one take.”

The Gamer notes that Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, Legend of Tianding, and Dragon Quest V all share similar gameplay elements with Sifu.
