Story, Setting, and Characters

Set in an ever-changing solar system, the game puts you in the shoes of a young explorer who has just been recruited for a space program to unfold the secrets of Outer Wilds! With a Supernova ending it all after each loop, the player gets a window of 22 minutes to find the Eye of the Universe before everything resets.

The game focuses on exploration with the player trying to learn about the now-extinct Nomai race who came to the Solar System thousands of years ago. With each loop, the player learns something new that he gets to keep for the future loops without having to repeat his actions all over again every time the loop resets. The player carries a variety of tools that are useful for a successful venture of the Outer Wilds.

While most of the things stay the same in each loop, there are some places and events that change during the course of the time loop forcing the player to find a way around the changes to progress through the game. There are several things that the player has to pay attention to including his health, the oxygen level around him, and also the fuel that his spaceship is using. In case the player dies or runs out of time, he simply gets spawned back to the start of the time loop.
