Story, Setting, and Characters

You play as Tommy Angelo, a cabbie-turned-made man as he works his way up through the ranks of the Salieri crime family. Missions will play out against the backdrop of a 1930s, Prohibition Era Illinois, in the fictional city of Lost Heaven.

While Mafia: Definitive Edition is completely rebuilt from the ground up with new assets, systems, and graphics, it is the same Mafia game you remember from 2002. Tommy’s missions will take you all through Lost Heaven, either by car or by motorcycle, a brand new set of vehicles for the franchise.

You can also enjoy Free Ride Mode, where the linear missions of the story campaign won’t interfere with your exploration of the highly detailed city. If you keep a lookout, you might even find some additional hidden missions in Free Ride, though they will be wackier, over-the-top than the more serious story missions.

Mafia: Definitive Edition has been highly regarded by critics with a 79 Metascore since its original release date on September 24th, 2020. It also has been mostly enjoyed by fans with a 6.8 user score on Metacritic.

The game has received several sizeable updates since its release, including one that lets players enjoy the game in a black and white “Noir Mode”, which further drives home the 1930s setting and feeling.
